Jeffrey W. Stowers, Jr., Esq. is partner of The Reliance Law Group. Mr. Stowers holds a Bachelor of Science degree from King University in Political Science and History and a Masters of Law degree from the Appalachian School of Law. Mr. Stowers graduated cum laude from Appalachian School of Law in 2015 with his Juris Doctorate and was on the Dean’s List. Mr. Stowers is certified in Civil Litigation and is a Certified Civil Mediator along with the “Lawyer as a Problem Solver” Mediation Certification.
He is a Virginia licensed attorney, VSB No.: 89604, admitted in 2015, with a significant background in Criminal Law, Divorce, Child Custody, Guardianships and Conservatorships, Black Lung, Personal Injury, Contracts, and Landlord/Tenant issues. Mr. Stowers, along with Mr. Ratliff secured a multi-million dollar personal injury case. Mr. Stowers has acted as a guardian ad litem for children and incapacitated adults since 2015. Mr. Stowers has represented Departments of Social Service in Emergency Hearings regarding incapacitated adults and assisted in securing safe placement for those individuals.
In addition to his membership in the Virginia State Bar, Mr. Stowers is admitted to the U.S. District Court in the Western District of Virginia and is currently working on obtaining his admission to the Tennessee Bar. Mr. Stowers is a lifelong resident of Southwest Virginia and regularly appears in the counties of Tazewell, Buchanan, Russell, Washington, Smyth, Carroll, Bland, Wythe, and the City of Bristol. Mr. Stowers presently serves as the Institutional Attorney for Pocahontas State Correctional Center. He is a member of the Tazewell, Washington, and Bristol Bar.
Mr. Stowers has been has two legal articles published. The first article is “Misunderstood: A Juvenile’s Ability to be Competent Enough to Understand A Guilty Plea”- Vol. 19 Issue 1, 2016 of New Criminal Law Review. The New Criminal Law Review Journal is ranked as the Number One criminal law review journal in the county and Number Ten in the world. The second article is ” A Starving Culture: Alaskan Nature Villages’ Fight to Use Traditional Hunting & Fishing Grounds- Vol. 40 Issue 1, 2016, American Indian Law Review.
Mr. Stowers is a member of the National Trial Lawyers Association and has been listed as a Top 40 Under 40 Criminal Defense Attorney and the Top 10 Under 40 Criminal Defense Attorney in Virginia. Mr. Stowers and Mr. Ratliff litigated and settled a multi-million personal injury lawsuit in 2019.
